Entered service at: Canton, N.Y. Birth:------. Date of issue: 22 March 1892. Citation: Made a successful charge at Yellow Tavern, Va., 11 May 1864, by which 90 prisoners were captured. On 27 May 1864, in a gallant dash on a superior force of the enemy and in a personal encounter, captured his opponent.

The Battle of Yellow Tavern was fought on May 11, 1864, as part of the Overland Campaign of the American Civil War. A clash between Union and Confederate cavalry forces, it is best known for the mortal wounding of legendary Confederate cavalry commander Maj. Gen. J.E.B. Stuart.
