If I find the surname in various Canton Census, the information will also be listed. They may or may not be the correct people but may be a family member.
Many of these businesses/stores may have burned down. Note regarding Fires - the 1873/4 Canton Child's Gazeteer says that:
"(8) A serious fire occurred here Oct 4, 1843; another in April, 1869, burned from the corner of Main and Water streets to the post office, where Matthew's store now stands; and another in August, 1870, burned more than sixty stores and offices and rendered twenty-two families houseless."
